Supporting Evidence

Every season it's tradition that the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions play at home as the NFL's Thanksgiving games. I have no idea why it is tradition but it is.

Some traditions are best being changed. It's probably time for the dogs that are the Detroit Lions to be put to rest. Even turkeys pity the Lions on Thanksgiving. I used to love watching Barry Sanders run wild on Thursday while I enjoyed some home cooking. But after his retirement already ten years ago, the Lions have destroyed my appetite.

I only bring this up, (and I'm sure something that has been on minds for years in other households) because this year the Lions play the undefeated Tennessee Titans. The defeated Lions (0-8) are making a play to go defeated all season. The Titans keep finding ways to win in games they should lose. I have nothing against the Lions, and sometimes teams go through rebuilding years. This I know well. But its embarassing for them to be put under the microscope on Thanksgving Day for the entire nation to see them make mistakes as they try to put the past decade behind them. I do like those jerseys they wear, though.

and worse yet, the NFL added an 8pm game a few years ago to capture the hoopla that goes with the Thanksgiving afternoon games. Unforunately, its broadcast on NFL network only.

thats a good question Bear.. I'm guessing they love the ritual, and national attention. Because even in lean years, they get broadcast nationally. Furthermore, Birdman never mentioned that the Lions, even in poor seasons, seem to step up their game on Turkey Day.

True fans will stick with their team through thick and thin. I'm glad that tradition trumps the fact that Detroit is bad and will lose big to the Titans this year.
