Supporting Evidence
A few years ago the NFL unveiled a plan to start carrying NFL games on the NFL Network, a pay channel you have to subscribe to specifically.I equate this with a boxing, or wrestling bout you would have to pay upwards of $29.99 to see. The fee, is rather minimal at $5.99 a month, but the season is only five months long, and the NFL network games only begin in November. So essentially, you would be paying 71.88 (without taxes and other fees) for only 7 regular season games you would be missing. Not really worth it, and worse yet, its okay if the NFL wants to go the style of boxing or wrestling, (as speculators have grumbled they foresee the NFL going to an all-pay format completely within a few years because NFL execs reason, "People will pay it") but don't dub your sport America's game or as supplanting America's past time. I've never had to pay extra fees to see America's past time.
Last season, there was public outcry as the Packers at 10-1 (who have probably the NFL's most zealous fans) and Cowboys also at 10-1, met on a Thursday evening and resulted in 75 million households unable to watch the game.
