Every town has "their" sportscaster. Phil Rizzuto, Harry Cary. I didn't realize this until a few years back when I started to leave my hometown on a constant basis for trips, moving, etc.
But I never realized that Harry Kalas is as much a part of my childhood as is a little red wagon, tee ball or Batman.
And the as the Phillies inch closer to a possible World Series appearance, I can't help but sit back and fondly remember his signature voice calling shots out of Veteran Stadium. It's funny. I have more memories at that Stadium than any of the subsequent ones, as I have moved before they were built. I can't wait to get there some day. And although Kalas lost his dear friend Richie Ashburn (another famous Philly voice I can no longer remember but still treasure) in 1997 due to a heart attack, Kalas solidiers on, with Chris Wheeler, or "Wheels" calling all the Phillies games, season in and out. And now that it's an "in" season I feel he deserves props for all his hard work that has lasted considerably longer than my life. Props Harry Kalas. Go Phillies!
