Supporting Evidence
I signed up for Clearwire recently. An ISP that uses a wireless signal to connect with a modem they give you. The sales person that convinced me to start this service lied about a couple things.First, they told me the Clearwire modem acted as a wireless router in addition to its modem functions. They told me there was no need for additional hardware to connect wirelessly to the modem. This information is all false. The modem does not emit a wireless signal, a wireless router is required, as I was told by Clearwire's tech support after signing up for the service and receiving my router. Their modem has one wired port on the back to connect one computer. If you want to connect two computers, games consoles, a dvr, or more, you again have to buy a router.
Also, upon signing up, I was told I would have a seven day trial period after receiving my modem in which I could cancel if I did not receive a good signal at my location. Clearwire told me there would be no charges placed on the credit card number they asked me for, only a one dollar hold as part of the credit check, until my seven day trial period was up and I decided to keep the modem. Not only did they charge my card $46, they charged it before I even received the modem.
Well, the modem came. The internet service was ridiculously slow. So I called to cancel. They sent me through two tech support people with all kinds of options to speed up service and kept me on the phone for about a half and hour before they let me cancel. Asking for a refund of the $46, they said someone from the financial department would call me in the next 3-5 business days.
When the call came, the lady told me they would not refund my money until they received the modem back. I had already shipped the modem the day before and told them that is beside the point. They went back on what they had originally told me and charged me. The woman was adamant that I would not be refunded until they received the return as it was "company guidelines." Upon asking if they were in habit of lying to customers to sell their product, she had no response.
Clearwire is a company I clearly do not want to do business with. I recommend everyone stear clear of their services. The fact that they do not care or respect their customers is crystal...clear. Is that clear enough for ya?
