I have to admit, I was a little skeptical when I first heard from a friend about the "Genius" function on iTunes. I still may not be completely convinced, but I will admit that I am quite impressed so far.Basically, the iTunes Genius function works by choosing a song, clicking the Genius button and then receiving a playlist of 25, 50, 75 or 100 songs that go together based off of your single song selection! At first glance of my generated playlist I thought there was no way some of these songs would go together, but sure enough, as the playlist rode on I was continually amazed at how well everything blended together into a solid, authentic playlist.
On first run, the Genius takes about 10 minutes to compile all of your songs, send them to their system and come back with results - plus you also need to sign up for an iTunes account, because like everything else, there is a hope that the Genius sidebar (which displays additional songs by the artists you don't have and albums that you also might like) will get you into the iTunes store for a quick purchase.
With that aside it a is a pretty cool function that allows you to listen to some great tunes without the added effort of going through your growing music collection to create your own playlists. It's a good way to come across forgotten songs and mesh different genres together that you never otherwise would have played in the same sitting.
So, if you have the patience, give Genius a try - I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the results you get!

i've only used it a couple of times, my roommate really likes it. i'm still slightly confused though, so basically it makes a playlist of songs you already have on your itunes, right? or does it play songs from the store that you havent purchased. I think its the first one, right?
