Last summer, my wife, sister, brother-in-law, and I traveled to New York. Our second to last day there, we rented a car and took a detour to Jackson, New Jersey, home of Six Flags Great Adventure. My wife and I love roller coasters and were excited to ride Kingda Ka, the tallest and fastest coaster on earth.

Our first disappointment came when we entered the park and found out that Kingda Ka was closed. I understand rides break down and need to be maintained to be kept safe and operational, so I was okay with that, just disappointed.

We went and rode Superman: Ultimate Flight and enjoyed it. Upon exiting the ride, the park closed the outdoor rides because there was a thunderstorm approaching. No more roller coasters till the storm passed. So we bought some overpriced food and played some expensive carnival games while we waited.

We soon decided to try some of the smaller indoor rides only to find out that they were not in operation either. Through talking to some of the park staff, we found out that the park generator had been struck by lightning and the rides should be up and running again soon.

We waited another two and a half hours wandering the park until we decided we had had enough and were going to try to get our $120 in admission fees back.

The customer service department was very rude and unhelpful when pointing out that they do not give refunds. After quite a while of arguing, they found it within their hearts to try to service an unhappy customer and offered us readmission tickets to the park good for one month. That would be fine if I lived in New Jersey, or even New York. We live in Washington state and were flying home the following day. I expressed this to customer service and they told me, very rudely, that maybe I should make another trip to New Jersey in the next month then.

All said, we ended up renting a car, wasting an entire day, and paying $120 to ride one 3 minute roller coaster. I left the park furious. I will never return to a Six Flags owned park. Ever.

Giving your money back would have been the right thing to do. They deserve to get their ass Consupo'd.

I really cannot believe that with so many rides not in operation they would not just offer you a refund! As a rollercoaster lover myself, if I had seen that huge ride and not been able to ride it I would been so sad, I feel your pain!

Seriously, I would have been so angry! Maybe would've taken the readmission tickets and tried to sell them online to salvage some $.
